Sophia Snow Place Ribbon Cutting

The long-awaited grand opening of Sophia Snow Place took place on December 6 2006 with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a lovely reception and guided tours of the residence.

Many Sophia Snow residents were in attendance along with distinguished guests including Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Sophia Snow House Board of Directors President Lincoln Williams and Vice President Ellen Gaffney, Commissioner of Elder Affairs Eliza Greenberg, EVP for Finance Programs at Mass Development Laura Center and Sophia Snow Resident’s Council member Thelma Moore.

Originally created by Sophia Snow House and founded in Boston in 1856 as the Roxbury Home for Aged Women, Sophia Snow Place moved to a new building near the Arnold Arboretum in 1962. In 2000 Sophia Snow House’s forward-thinking board of directors led by Williams and the building committee began planning for the needs of the growing elder population of the area. That vision was realized with the grand opening of the newly-constructed Sophia Snow Place.
