Sophia Snow's Hawaiian Luau

While a New England winter raged outside, Sophia Snow was recently transformed into a Hawaiian island complete with palm trees and tropical fish.

The residence celebrated island culture with a special party featuring Hawaiian music and professional belly-dancers.

Residents enjoyed their very own strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas while feasting on breaded coconut shrimp for an appetizer and their choice of either fish or pork on a bed of rice with vegetables for lunch.

While all participants wore Hawaiian leis, some residents even decked themselves out in grass skirts and equipped themselves with their own set of maracas!

Several residents volunteered to learn how to hula with the instructor teaching them basic hand movements as well as how to shake their hips.

"I haven’t had this much fun in a while,” said resident Rita McLaughlin.

Lots of planning went into the event, but it was all worth it. Residents could not hold back their smiles or their laughter which could be heard down the halls.
